Entartete Kunts
[LINK-ZUM]
"Entartete Kunts" is a playful bastardization of the German term "degenerate art" and a snide reference to the 1937 Nazi purging of all art deemed objectionable by "Der Fuhrer." This unfortunate pun seems somehow appropriate for a bunch of drooling degenerates that consistently crank out uncompromising eyesores with seemingly little regard for commercial viability or good taste. As it turns out, the title also insures that many local businesses will refuse to display the flyer or otherwise promote this annual optic apocalypse. Entartete Kunts is in fact a very special exhibition that assembles some of the most devoted artists from around the world for a rare glimpse into a thriving and still largely renegade culture!
Featuring J. Petagno, Chris Reifert, Drew Elliott, Rev. Kriss Hades, Conny Cobra, Mannuel Tinnemans, Nor Prego, Glenn Smith, Strephon Taylor, T. Ketola, Joseph A. Smith, French, Musta Aurinko, Paul "Unhinged" McCarroll, Bobby BeauSoleil and Dennis Dread. OPENING RECEPTION Friday JUNE 20 2008 7pm-10pm OPTIC NERVE ARTS [All text from press release. Dennis Dread is well known to readers of OVO as the cover artist for OVO 16 ANTICHRIST. See press release for remarkable biography of each artist. - Trevor Blake]
DJ Scientific
[LINK-ZUM]
"Founded in 2005 by veteran DJ, Mark 'Scientific' Branch, Scientific Beats provides top quality music production for artists in the R&B and Hip-Hop genres, as well as top quality DJs for industry events. The founder, DJ Scientific, has been making people dance in clubs and at private affairs across the country for nearly 2 decades, starting in the mid '80s while in Junior High School.
"One day while talking to students about what he does outside of NASA (namely his life as a DJ on TV and in the clubs), he noticed that the students became more attentive. Once he captured their attention, they were more receptive to learn about the plethora of career possibilities in STEM [The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education Coalition]. After that life-changing experience, Scientific chose to utilize Hip-Hop culture as a means to capture the attention of students and direct their energies toward a focus on improving their scholastic performance. At this time, he is working on a plan to broaden his talks and get involved with 'at-risk' kids at a DC elementary school to see if his ideas will improve those students' scholastic performance and foster an attitude of furthering their education past high school and on to college and beyond! We all hope that he is successful with this endeavor." Trevor Blake: Music Recommendations

Dennis Dread Original Art for Sale
[LINK-ZUM]
A rare oportunity to own original art by Dennis Dread.
In the late 1980s / early 1990s I lived in Knoxville TN and Dennis lived in New York state. I traded copies of my zine OVO for a t-shirt produced by Mutilation Graphics, and the t-shirt I got was almost certainly screen printed by Dennis. More than ten years later we found ourselves working at the same job, amazed that our paths had crossed years before. Dennis did the cover art work for OVO 16 AntiChrist. I have attended a number of art shows produced by or including Mr. Dread's work, but this is the first time I've seen original works (rather than high-quality prints) for sale. Recommended!
Tom Ellard: Adenoids
[LINK-ZUM]
[I very much like the band Severed Heads. The following by Tom Ellard describes a new limited-edition vinyl set of music by Severed Heads called Adenoids. - Trevor Blake]
And here we have it - the ultimate produce of the new millennium. A box of vinyl discs with music from as much as thirty years ago. Could something express any less faith in the future? My guess is that we seek to capture some 'purity' that has since been encrusted with quibbles. It's a hopeless fetish that leads in an ever contracting spiral - music is born continuously and defies attempts to capture it in decorative tombs. Nevertheless. We have here a very decorative tomb. Music made from 1977 onwards by people who would be identified for a time as 'Severed Heads'. Much is by Richard Fielding who left in 1982. Some by Andrew Wright, gone in 1980. Some by Bradbury, left in 1985, Deering also. I plan to be quit of it as soon as it ceases bleeding. Meanwhile I hold the tourniquet. In each case the music has been taken from the best copy, cleaned only as much as needed and organised to fit onto long playing vinyl. It is ancient, funny, half arsed, crinkly, clever and juvenile. It was compiled by a prick. All proceeds will be spent by Fielding on horse races. Buy two because they will wear out. Labels: music Trevor Blake: Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness

Trevor Blake: Sleep Chamber Wishes You a Merry XXX-Mas
[LINK-ZUM]
Brad Miller is documenting the work of John Zewizz, aka Sleep Chamber. This is much-needed archival work, as Sleep Chamber was a band deserving of far more positive attention than it got. Anyone interested in the sort of sex-heavy occult electronic music of earlier Coil or Psychic TV would do well to see what America had to offer in that genre. I corresponded with John in the late 1980s, trading my zine for his videotapes. Sleep Chamber spawned Women of the SS, who became Women of Sodom. Here is a digitalization of a remarkably rare holiday compilation cassette edited by John Zewizz. John, wherever you are, take care and thank you.

Christ @ Work. The Bible does contain some fine moral advice in it. It also contains some inhumanly evil moral advice. It also contains some foolish nonsense that dresses itself up as moral advice. That doesn't make it much different from any number of other books, ancient and modern.

Publius Enigma. It has something to do with Pink Floyd and the Internet and a treasure hunt. Read yourself silly about it here, here, here or here. Or here, which has the appearance of the kind of mystery marketing currently underway for the movie AI. In WWII there was white propaganda (overt) and black propaganda (covert). White propaganda would include posters of the evil Huns plundering Europe. Black propaganda would include a 'translation' of Nostradamus that hinted Germany would not win the War. Perhaps we could consider this 'black marketing.' [Originally published June 25, 2001. Links updated October 17, 2007. - Trevor Blake]
