A google search for "portland bike fight" will reveal a species of tension in my fair city. I know this tension personally, having relied on bike / bus / foot since 1992 yet now my preferred means of transportation is being besmirched by others. It seems that Portland is far from the only city where this tension is happening, and I am far from the only person who doesn't care for it. What can be done about The Cyclists?

I met Ace Hayes very, very briefly in the mid 1990s at one of his Secret Government Seminars at the Clinton Street Cinema. If we said more than a hello that conversation has been lost forever. But the SGS was memorable. Ace sat at a large folding table stacked at least one foot high with print outs, photocopies, manuscripts, notes and three-ring binders. In all this paperwork was his evidence for a conspiracy that controlled the world. Ace tended to remain in the realm of the unpleasant but credible, such as wealthy families controlling large industries which controlled corrupt governments which controlled the likes of you and I. His audience, however, included believers in hidden tunnels beneath local mental hospitals where ritual abuse and mind control experiments were taking place. Ace spoke first and at length, but was accommodating to audience members who wanted to speak about these more exotic topics afterwards. I admired his pro-mutant tendencies. Ace published the Portland Free Press newspaper and had a cable access television program. He died in 1998. His jaw-dropping collection of books has been scattered to the winds, but I know a secret underground bunker where some of his holdings are hidden away until the time is right. What I treasure the most from Ace is the following quote: "If you want to hide the truth, put it in a book."
Trevor Blake: Buckminster Fuller Play in Portland
[LINK-ZUM]
![]() Portland Center Stage will be presenting R. Buckminster Fuller: The History [and Mystery] of the Universe October 14 - December 7, 2008. "An engineer, architect, mathematician, designer, poet, philosopher, motivational speaker, major utopian thinker and inventor of the geodesic dome, Buckminster Fuller was one of the most remarkable minds of the 20th century. Born in 1895, Bucky was way ahead of his time. Refusing to think in conventional ways, he was an innovator, a futurist, and one of the first true global thinkers. This tour-de-force, one-man performance explores Bucky's life and work through a blend of testimony, lecture, autobiography, poetry, comic antics and video imagery. The play spirals and spins through ideas and experiences as Bucky escorts you on an unforgettable journey." I saw this play in Seattle (with a different actor as Fuller) and it is very worth attending. View a commercial from a recent presentation of this play in California. There is going to be a rocket launching in April 2008. Some fellow cultists have expressed interest in learning to make rockets. The LFRA (Lemurian Flying Rocket Association / "Light Fuse Run Away") is considering accepting an elite and limited number of applications for training in March. Students will be expected to meet most of their own expenses, which should be well under $50 from conception to launch. No payment to the LFRA is expected. A good deal of inactivity is involved in the activity of rocketry to allow glue and paint to dry. Therefore other components of the LFRA space program (video, eating, walks, etc.) will likely co-occur. If you are interested, comment at pdxocculture.com. Rockets will occur in April with or without increasing the membership of the LFRA.
Dennis Dread Original Art for Sale
[LINK-ZUM]
A rare oportunity to own original art by Dennis Dread.
In the late 1980s / early 1990s I lived in Knoxville TN and Dennis lived in New York state. I traded copies of my zine OVO for a t-shirt produced by Mutilation Graphics, and the t-shirt I got was almost certainly screen printed by Dennis. More than ten years later we found ourselves working at the same job, amazed that our paths had crossed years before. Dennis did the cover art work for OVO 16 AntiChrist. I have attended a number of art shows produced by or including Mr. Dread's work, but this is the first time I've seen original works (rather than high-quality prints) for sale. Recommended! AP and Susan Harding: Mayor's racy photos become the talk of the town
[LINK-ZUM]
[Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist] posted pictures of herself wearing only a black bra and panties on her MySpace page. She was on one of the town's fire engines. Kontur-Gronquist's MySpace page is blocked to all but her friends, but the pictures were at one time available to all users. [...]
In an interview with the (Pendleton) East Oregonian, the mayor said she did nothing wrong and those who are offended need to get over it. "That's my personal life," she said. "It has nothing to do with my mayor's position." Kontur-Gronquist, who is also the fire department's executive secretary, said the photos were taken before she was elected mayor three years ago, and she saw no reason to remove them from the Internet after taking office. "I'm not going to change who I am," she said. "There's a lot of officials that have a personal life, and you have people in this community who have nothing better to do than scrape up stuff like this." [...] And at least one city council member is speaking out, saying the photos are inappropriate and send the wrong message to kids. "It gives the impression that it's just OK to do whatever you feel like doing, whenever, and not have any kind of concern about how it might affect other people, and that is a big concern I have," council member Alice Courtney told KATU. [Article continues at link. A proud salute to Mayor Kontur-Gronquist! And a big raspberry to council member Courtney. If 'kids' are using the Internet without parental supervision, that's an issue of poor parenting skills and nothing else. If a relatively tame photograph such as this is going to 'affect other people,' then maybe those other people need to not be using the Internet either. Or living in 21st Century America. There are countries in the world where the women are kept covered up and those who rebel are beaten or killed for it - maybe council member Courtney would prefer to live there instead. As use of digital cameras and Internet access increases, I strongly suspect that there will be many more cases such as this in the near future. People playing around, then finding the record of their playing around on a global stage. What I hope to see more of at the same time are people like Mayor Kontur-Gronquist, who say 'yeah I did that, it doesn't conflict with my job as (Mayor, entertainer, parent, educator, clergy, etc.), and why don't you get a life of your own instead of picking pieces off mine?' - Trevor Blake] Labels: libertarian, portland

Thank you for Adrian Chen's article "Shifting Fortunes." I am glad that Portland has no laws against fortune telling. Fortune telling and psychic powers may or may not exist, and they may or may not be accurate, but even if they don't exist or consistently fail it does no good to outlaw what is wrong. People must be free to try new things, including things that might fail at their cost.
The psychics in your paper might be happy to learn that an easy one million dollars is theirs for the taking if they can demonstrate their powers to the James Randi Educational Foundation (www.randi.org). There are any number of charitable organizations who are in need of this money should the psychics in question not be in it for the money. - Trevor Blake Labels: magick, periodical, portland, trevorblake Trevor Blake: Stumptown
