Trevor Blake: The Reign of Terror [LINK-ZUM]
Wikipedia: "On 14 July [1789], the insurgents set their eyes on the large weapons and ammunition cache inside the Bastille fortress, which also served as a symbol of tyranny by the monarchy. After several hours of combat, the prison fell that afternoon." So began the French Revolution, which included The Reign of Terror.

Wikipedia: "The victims of the Reign of Terror totaled approximately 40,000. Among people who were condemned by the revolutionary tribunals, about [...] 6 percent [were] clergy [...] the clergy of the Roman Catholic church suffered proportionately the greatest loss. Another anti-clerical uprising was made possible by the installment of the Revolutionary Calendar on 24 October. Against Robespierre's concepts of Deism and Virtue, Hebert's (and Chaumette's) atheist movement initiated a religious campaign in order to dechristianize society. The program of dechristianisation waged against Catholicism, and eventually against all forms of Christianity, included the deportation of clergy and the condemnation of many of them to death, the closing of churches, the institution of revolutionary and civic cults, the large scale destruction of religious monuments, the outlawing of public and private worship and religious education, forced marriages of the clergy and forced abjurement of their priesthood. The enactment of a law on 21 October 1793 made all suspected priests and all persons who harbored them liable to death on sight."

Critics of atheism will often claim Hitler was an atheist and thus atheism is wicked. Hitler was a Christian [1] [2] and so it is not atheism that must answer for what he did. Sometimes they will claim Stalin was an atheist and thus atheism is wicked. Stalin was an atheist but he committed his wickedness for socialism, not atheism. Strangely, I have never read a critic of atheism claim that the Reign of Terror was an atheist occurrence. It's true, and proof that atheism be used to wicked ends. What can be done to lessen the chance of that happening?

Trevor Blake: Who Gets to be Kitsch, Who Doesn't [LINK-ZUM]
Che Guevara ordered the execution of at least fifty and perhaps more than two hundred people while serving as a prison warden in 1959. All your revolutionary needs can be purchased at The Che Store. Joseph Stalin managed to murder or starve five to ten million Russians. There's a flocked plastic statue of Uncle Joe with your name on it. Mao Zedong is responsible for the death of seventy-seven million of his commrades. Sign up now for your plastic Mao bust.

I can think of another political leader who killed more than two hundred people, less than seventy-seven million people, and around the lower amount of five to ten million. But that political leader doesn't get to be kitsch. Perhaps the difference is that you have kill some people for the betterment of all people, not just your people. Then you get to be kitsch a generation or two later.

Western Resistance: UK Rapist Protected By Mosque Members [LINK-ZUM]
Abdul Makim Khalisadar, aged 26, pleaded guilty to raping a woman at knifepoint and was jailed for 10 years. [...] At first Khalisadar said to police that there had been no rape and that the woman had consented to sex. Then he changed his story and said that he had been at East London Mosque. He said that he had been preaching there during Ramadan, giving a talk on the subject of repentance. He managed to get seven men from the mosque to give him a fake alibi, backing up his story that he had been at the mosque when he had been raping the woman. Last month, [the seven men] admitted lying to the police in their statements. They were sentenced on Monday to 12 months' jail for perverting the course of justice.

It appears that the reason which had brought Khanasadar to the attention of the police was his apparent involvement with former Al Muhajiroun member Kazi Nurur Rahman. Rahman was linked to the terrorists of Operation Crevice, and had been studied by police since July 2005. [...] While Khalisadar was under police investigation, he was arrested for downloading images of child abuse from the internet. As a result of this arrest, he was given a DNA test, which matched the sample from the woman's rape.

Khanisadar was given a ten year jail sentence by Judge Timothy King, who condemned Khanisadar's "hypocrisy". He was given a seven and a half year sentence for the rape, with an additional two and a half years for perverting the course of justice. Somewhat surprisingly, in none of the news reports are there any comments from Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari condemning the activities of the seven males from the East London Mosque who plotted to support Khanisadar's lies. Nor is there any comment from Bari explaining how young people are allowed to be in the mosque at 3.30 am, and whether or not he claims any responsibility for allowing a young thug like Khanisadar to preach on mosque premises. The Sun states that on Monday, when the trial concluded, women wearing burkas in the courtroom's "public gallery yelled abuse at the judge - and one screamed that the victim was a prostitute." Eleven charges which were formerly brought against Khanisadar for possessing pictures of child abuse are not being pursued at present.

[Article continues at link. When you have an invisible monster that lives in the sky on your side, anything you so or say is automatically right. When you want to cover up your buddy's rape, you can do it. When your buddy goes to prison, you can verbally abuse his victim. God-given certainty is the bedrock for all immorality, be it that of shameful superstitions such as Islam or the 'material concept of history' in socialism. I thank my lucky stars every day that I know how prone to error I am. - Trevor Blake]

Jonathan Petre: Atheists behind the greatest cruelty, says Pope [LINK-ZUM]
Pope Benedict XVI has launched a powerful attack on atheism, saying that it was responsible for some of the "greatest forms of cruelty and violations of justice" in history.

[Article continues at link. Image above depicts a devoted and life-long Roman Catholic, never once censored by the Pope, leaving a house of worship. Socialism, the true target of the Pope's missive, has indeed killed so many people that it is almost showing up on the charts as a distant number two compared to the body count of those killed by religion. Give it a few thousand more years and maybe it will be an honest contender. For now, nothing competes with religion in the murder department. What is it about religion that makes people so sure it is morally right to kill? Faith. Faith is not to believe where there is a lack of evidence. Faith is to go on believing when there is counter-evidence. That is where socialism and religion meet. Religion has an invisible monster that lives in the sky on its side, which justifies everything it does. Socialism has the Material Concept of History on its side, which justifies everything it does. I'm not a fan of faith, religion or socialism. I'm a fan of acknowledging that humanity will inevitably err, and the best we can do is limit the scope of our errors before we make them and learn from our errors after we make them. That is how democracy and science are linked; they grow on a mountain of errors, not from a soil of Absolute Truth. - Trevor Blake]

Richard Spencer and Juliet Turner: Doctors battle to save 'human pin-cushion' [LINK-ZUM]
Doctors in China have saved the life of a woman who had 26 pins and needles inserted into her body when she was a child in an apparent attempt to change her sex to a boy. The objects were discovered when the 29-year-old woman, named in local papers as Luo Cuifen, went to hospital for a check-up after she started experiencing blood in her urine. [...] Since the one-child policy came into force, around the time of Miss Luo's birth, many girl children have been aborted, abandoned, or killed after birth - in some cases by grandparents. Miss Luo, who comes from a rural area in Yunnan, one of China's poorer provinces, told doctors she had two needles removed when she was a child but had had no health problems until she gave birth.

[Article with photographs continues at link. Here is the side of 'alternative medicine' and 'Chinese medicine' and 'traditional medicine' that you don't hear as much about in the West. Although there are perhaps thirty (30!) wild South China Tigers left in the world, they continue to be butchered for 'medical' treatments that do not now nor have they ever worked. Acupuncture may be an effective placebo delivery system but it can also result in sickness and death. China is a socialist country, suggesting socialism does not provide an immunity to superstition or poor parenting. It isn't alternative medicine if there is no alternative. The real alternative here would have included access to actual medical care and not attempting to change the sex of an infant. - Trevor Blake]

Albert Mohler: Is Your Baby Gay? What If You Could Know? What If You Could Do Something About It? [LINK-ZUM]
What if you could know that your unborn baby boy is likely to be sexually attracted to other boys? Beyond that, what if hormonal treatments could change the baby's orientation to heterosexual? Would you do it? Some scientists believe that such developments are just around the corner. [...] If a biological basis is found, and if a prenatal test is then developed, and if a successful treatment to reverse the sexual orientation to heterosexual is ever developed, we would support its use as we should unapologetically support the use of any appropriate means to avoid sexual temptation and the inevitable effects of sin.

[Article continues at link. Let's consider Dr. Mohler's claims. He claims Hinuism, Buddhism and Marxism are satanic (Catholics, too), and he claims that atheism is a religion. He claims "intelligent design" is a scientific theory. Dr. Mohler claims the North won the US Civil War because they were Christians (but, uh, weren't the South Christians too? And isn't the Bible just queer for slavery?) He is also way against torture except sometimes. So for sure and for real this guy has the high ground when it comes to morals and facts, and oh thank heaven he and his kind have the ear of the Bush administration.
